Gege Akutami's Jujutsu Kaisen has seen the rise and fall of some of the mightiest sorcerers over the years. Right from the get-go, Gege Akutami's story made it quite clear that Gojo and Sukuna were two of the strongest. While Sukuna reigned as the King of Curses and the strongest sorcerer in history, Gojo Satoru was the strongest in the modern era, and these two were largely neck and neck, as seen in the Shinjuku Showdown arc.
Now, however, the world of Jujutsu Kaisen has moved so far ahead in the decades that followed this cataclysmic clash that both Gojo and Sukuna are obsolete, with new powerful individuals rising to the top in the Modulo era, 68 years after the conclusion of the original story.
Gojo Satoru and Ryomen Sukuna were known to be monstrously powerful sorcerers in the original story when Jujutsu Kaisen began its run in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump on March 5, 2018, which is around 8 years ago now. Right from its very beginning, we knew that Gojo and Sukuna were the pinnacle of strength. Immediately upon his debut in the story, Gojo Satoru described himself as the strongest when he saved Yuji from his execution. At the same time, Gojo took to explaining the powers of Ryomen Sukuna not long after, telling us that his strength was such that it transcended time itself. The strength of Ryomen Sukuna was finally fully revealed to us in the Shinjuku showdown arc, where he clashed against Gojo Satoru, the strongest modern sorcerer.
"More than 1000 years ago, when Sorcery was at its prime, Sorcerers gave it their all trying to take him down. But, to no avail. He was given his name, and after his death, they weren't able to destroy his waxed body, so it crossed into our world as a cursed object. Both of these sorcerers went against each other with everything they had at their disposal, showcasing what true Jujutsu Sorcery was like in the process. Their battle ended in Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 236, where Gojo let his guard down in an unfortunate turn of events, which eventually led to his end despite him being dominant in the battle. While Gojo vs. Sukuna ended on September 25, 2023, in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump Issue 43, the author continued to showcase Sukuna's incredible strength in the chapters that followed. Eventually, Sukuna also fell at the hands of Yuji Itadori towards the end of the series, before it finally wrapped up with the release of chapter 271 on September 30, 2024, in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump Issue 44.

At this point, most fans believed that Gojo and Sukuna would never be surpassed, but then came Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, a new project by Gege Akutami and Yuji Itadori, which showcased a new era of jujutsu set 68 years after the conclusion of the Shinjuku battle. In this new era, both Gojo and Sukuna are officially obsolete, as Yuji Itadori surpasses them all alongside the coming of a massive threat, Dabura Karaba.
In Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, Yuji Itadori has reached an incredibly high level of strength, which cannot be rivaled by many other sorcerers. By adulthood, Yuji Itadori has become the new strongest sorcerer, and this was confirmed directly to us by Gege Akutami with the release of Modulo Volume 3 on May 1, 2026. At the same time, Yuji Itadori is now also classified as a special grade Sorcerer. Fans might think that this doesn't necessarily mean that Yuji is stronger than Gojo and Sukuna, but when taking into consideration his arsenal of abilities, Yuji is most certainly above both of these sorcerers.
