Another month, another batch of free games to claim on Amazon Prime Gaming, Steam, the Epic Games Store, IndieGala, and more. If they take advantage of October 2026's free games, PC players can greatly expand their libraries by adding more than a dozen worthwhile titles, and that number is on the low end. Right now, you can claim Doom Eternal, System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster, and High on Life, but you'll need to act quickly to avoid missing out.
On the console side, PlayStation and Xbox owners rarely get any genuine freebies, but they can at least look forward to PS Plus and Game Pass' new arrivals. Both Sony and Microsoft add 10+ titles every month, and they tend to feature big names, like Gears of War: E-Day and RuneScape: Dragonwilds.
Don't miss out on any free games in October.
Please note that the section below with the links updates more frequently than the rest of the article, and it will continue to update even after October starts.
Along with staging regular free-to-keep events, Steam has another unique type of "giveaway." On occasion, developers decide to make their game free for one reason or another. In the case of Arena of Trophies, the title will be delisted on October 22, 2026, so Thor Game Studios decided to let everyone claim it for free. Well worth picking up since you have nothing to lose.
Probably the most famous giveaways in PC gaming, the Epic Games Store's weekly free games are simply reliable. Every Thursday at 8 AM PT or 11 AM EST, you can log on and add a title or two to your library at no extra cost. Most giveaways are indie titles a couple of years old, but they tend to be a bit more well-known than most of Steam's freebies.
Buried Stars is currently free, and it's a murder mystery visual novel with a fairly positive reputation, all things considered. The story dives into the entertainment industry and idol culture, and you have to solve a whodunit and a locked-room thriller.
The other free Epic Games Store game chosen to kickstart October 2026 is System Shock 2's remaster, which is a pretty big deal, all things considered. Nightdive's project launched in 2025, and System Shock 2 is an all-time masterpiece that helped define the immersive sim genre. While showing its age in places, the gameplay mostly holds up, and the remaster modernizes the original without undermining its quality.
