Final Fantasy 7 Revelation looks like a very ambitious game, and a pretty chunky one to boot. What with the game poised to take up a whopping 200GB of your hard drive, it seems likely that there's going to be a lot of stuff to do when we actually get our hands on it, probably even more than Rebirth. That makes me shudder a little bit, but hopefully it's not all minigames this time.
Rebirth was already a one hundred hour slog to see and finish everything, but that playtime could essentially double if you want to totally finish and see everything in Final Fantasy 7 Revelation.
This is according to the game's director, Naoki Hamaguchi, who stated in a recent interview with IGN Japan (translated by Twitter user Genki) stated that Final Fantasy 7 Revelation will require multiple playthroughs for fans that want to see absolutely everything the game has to offer. That's a lot of time investment.
Unfortunately, it doesn't seem that Hamaguchi goes into much detail about what this means or what the scope is. This could mean that some side quests could play out differently based on your choices, or something as massive and story-altering as the game having multiple endings. It's an interesting statement, and one that I'm sure has people that thought Rebirth was too big down on their knees.
Hopefully, the game will actually give us a good reason to play multiple times rather than simply tease us with the promise of a side quest with a different ending that isn't all that different to begin with. Then again, with eight characters to play around with, you could very easily make the game feel fresh with a second playthrough.
