The Last Caretaker, an open world survival-crafting game with excellent player reviews, is officially coming to Xbox, developer Channel37 has confirmed. Since November 2025, The Last Caretaker has been exclusively available on PC in Early Access, but in Spring 2027, it is finally coming to Xbox.
The Last Caretaker is described as "a first-person survival-crafting game about systems, choices, and purpose." Players must traverse the world to scavenge through abandoned facilities, take apart wreckage and recycle materials, which can then be crafted into useful gear. While exploring, players will encounter rogue machines to defeat in combat, all while working towards the main objectives: "restore ancient launch infrastructure, chart the ocean, gather resources and memories, and send the humans you raised into orbit." This survival game is entirely single-player, which gives the game an eerie vibe.
In its Xbox announcement, Channel37 highlights that the game has "50 hours average playtime" among players, and the Steam reviews would agree with this sentiment. Its reviews on the platform are currently 85% positive (or an 8.5/10), giving it a score of "Very Positive." Player reviews note how it balances resource management as important in the gameplay loop, but not in an overwhelmingly difficult fashion, while also heaping praise on its exploration and discovery as some of the best in the genre. With 400,000 copies sold, it has performed well so far on PC, but when compared to similar games in the genre, it's definitely more of a hidden gem.
The open world survival-crafting genre is massively overcrowded at this point, and has been for a very long time. Because of this, it's all the more impressive that The Last Caretaker actually manages to stand out from the crowd and distinguish itself from other games in the genre. It's certainly a very exciting prospect that all Xbox players should have their eyes on in Spring 2027. Xbox gamers can wishlist the game right now, although pre-orders are yet to open.
It's set to be an exciting few months for Xbox, specifically in the survival game genre. On September 15, the long-awaited RuneScape: Dragonwilds is emerging out of Early Access, with Dune: Awakening set to arrive on the platform a week later.
