A store listing may have accidentally revealed which developer is working on Zelda: Ocarina of Time. With Nintendo now having multiple studios working on its IPs, fans have wondered who might be bringing the Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake to life, and may now have an answer, albeit an unverified one.
Rumors of a remake of Zelda: Ocarina of Time swirled for quite a while before the game was officially revealed in June. So far, not a lot has been announced regarding the remake of one of the most beloved Zelda games, with only a brief teaser trailer shown for its reveal. As a result, gamers are looking for information wherever they can, and the community may have spotted something important.
As first spotted on Reddit, Norwegian retailer Elkjøp has listed The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake for sale, and in the listing, credited the developer of the game as Monolith Soft. The developer has previously worked on a number of Nintendo titles, including recent Switch 2 titles like Splatoon Raiders and Mario Kart World, but Monolith Soft also isn't a stranger to the Zelda franchise, with its history with the series dating back to Skyward Sword. However, it's worth pointing out that retailer Elkjøp has since revised the listing, and now describes the developer as simply "Nintendo." Fans should take this information with a grain of salt, as it's not known at this time if this was a simple mistake or if details were unintentionally revealed ahead of time.
Monolith Soft got its start all the way back in 1999, and released Xenosaga Episode 1 in 2002 as its first project. The developer has since gone on to work on a number of Xenosaga and Xenoblade games, as well as Project X Zone, Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy 7, and more. Monolith was fully acquired by Nintendo in 2024, though Nintendo had already been a majority shareholder since 2007. Beginning with Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Monolith Soft has worked on numerous Nintendo games, including Animal Crossing: New Leaf and New Horizons, as well as the entirety of the Splatoon franchise, plus Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, Breath of the Wild, and Tears of the Kingdom.
It was previously made clear by Monolith Soft that the developer will continue to act as a support studio for future Zelda games, which further reinforces the notion that it could be responsible for the Ocarina of Time remake. For the moment, fans will have to wait to learn more from official channels, but it may not take long. Numerous leaks have indicated that Nintendo will stick with its usual pattern of holding a Nintendo Direct in September, with a possible leak indicating it even coming from Ubisoft. With Ocarina of Time being one of its biggest upcoming games for the Switch 2, chances are players will get to see more during the next Nintendo Direct. However, Nintendo won't necessarily state what studio is working on the game, so this particular leak may remain a mystery until Ocarina of Time actually launches.
