First Diablo 5 Classes Officially Revealed

First Diablo 5 Classes Officially Revealed

Blizzard has officially revealed the first three Diablo 5 classes at BlizzCon. After the surprising announcement earlier in the day that the next Diablo game is coming in 2029, Blizzard continued the fun by confirming a few classes that players will be able to play as in the game.

Of all the announcements so far at BlizzCon, Diablo 5 being confirmed for 2029 is perhaps the most shocking. That launch window would see the game release just six years after Diablo 4. While that may seem like a long time, for Diablo releases, it's incredibly quick. For context, there were 11 years between Diablo 3 and 4. Even now, three years out, Blizzard has wasted no time detailing what players can expect from the upcoming sequel with the reveal of the first new Diablo 5 classes.

During the Diablo 5: Forging the Next Era panel at BlizzCon 2026, the developer revealed the game's first three classes: Demon Hunter, Monk, and Plague Knight. It also promised "Diablo's largest class roster to date, with even more to come in the coming years. Given that the game is still at least three years out, it's of little surprise that Blizzard is still holding back some surprises for the future.

Diablo veterans will immediately recognize the Demon Hunter and Monk from both Diablo 3 and Immortal. However, the Plague Knight is an entirely new Diablo class, with Blizzard giving players something fresh and exciting already, so far away from release. Given that players can expect the biggest class roster on launch, it's fair to say that even more familiar classes will be revealed when Blizzard is ready.

The Forging the Next Era panel also included some interesting details about how Diablo 5 will handle itemization. Blizzard claims that its "goal is to design items to feel readable, memorable, and worth chasing across hundreds of hours," inspired by Diablo 2's design philosophy. Like that game, larger items take up more inventory slots, meaning inventory management becomes even more important than ever.

Blizzard does highlight that, right now, Diablo 5 is still in very early development, "and this reveal marks the beginning of an ongoing conversation with the Diablo player community." However, players will not have to wait long to find out more. Starting in 2027, the developer plans to "share regular updates offering a closer look at our progress, the ideas guiding development, and features taking shape along the way." In the meantime, Diablo 4 Seasons are expected to continue as normal while Blizzard works hard on the sequel.
