LEGO has officially announced a PlayStation set immortalizing Sony's first-ever console. One of the company's largest 2026 products by piece count, the model will be available for purchase from LEGO stores and distributors starting in October.
Rumors about a LEGO PlayStation set had been circulating online since early 2026, when the first reports pointed to a near-2,000-piece recreation of the original console. The leaks became increasingly specific over the following months, eventually detailing the model's dimensions and hidden gaming Easter eggs in August, with even some finished product images surfacing in September.
Those months of rumors were largely proven correct on September 3, when LEGO officially announced its first PlayStation set. Identified by product number 72306 and simply named PlayStation, the 18+ display model consists of 1,911 pieces and will retail for $179.99 in the United States, €159.99 in Europe, and £139.99 in the UK. Once assembled, the console measures more than 2.5 inches (6 cm) tall, 10.5 inches (26 cm) wide, and 7.5 inches (19 cm) deep. LEGO Insiders will receive early access on October 1, followed by general availability through LEGO's official website and stores, as well as select retailers on October 4.
The upcoming set recreates the original gray console alongside its first controller, complete with a cable that plugs into the front of the system. Its Power and Open buttons are functional, with the latter operating the console’s familiar top-loading disc lid. Opening up the model also reveals the features that were among the most distinctive details from the August LEGO PlayStation leak: removable miniature dioramas based on Gran Turismo and Ape Escape. The former contains a tiny racetrack and cars, while the latter recreates an island scene with a monkey whose helmet light can be switched between red and blue. Both scenes can remain hidden inside the console or be removed and displayed separately.
The official announcement confirms that prior leaks about LEGO's PS1 set were by and large accurate, correctly identifying almost all of its product details. A late July 2026 report even correctly moved the expected release from December to October 1. However, the originally reported U.S. price of $159.99 was $20 below the now-confirmed MSRP, and the previously leaked LEGO Astro Bot set that was supposedly planned as a Gift-with-Purchase promo offer alongside the PS1 model has not been officially announced yet. The latter may still happen, not least because the said set, identified by product number 40899, has even been spotted online since the PS1 announcement.
While both included dioramas are likely to appeal to the same audience as a brick-built PS1, Ape Escape is a somewhat unusual pairing with the original console variant LEGO chose to recreate. The PS1 era saw a transition to analog controllers that started precisely by Ape Escape, the first-ever game to require them. In other words, the original D-pad-only gamepad included in LEGO's new set would not actually work with the monkey-catching game.
