The grand reveal of Final Fantasy VII: Revelation's release date during PlayStation's State of Play livestream early this morning is certainly the talk of the town now.
However, within the hefty lineup of pre-order editions and goodies that are now available, there's something especially interesting that could give the stories behind two of Final Fantasy 7's most poignant and mysterious characters their due justice and potentially lead to some additional, well, revelations.
While this was initially overlooked in the trailer reveal during the State of Play livestream, alongside the base game, Final Fantasy VII: Revelation is set to get a Story Expansion Pass. Along with various in-game items for players to use during combat, there will also be not one but two different story DLCs focused on two particular characters - Vincent Valentine and Sephiroth.
Vincent is one of the newer additions to the party roster, only making his dramatic appearance in the latter half of Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth and staying in "guest" status with Cid Highwind up to the game's conclusion. However, he and Cid are both set to become fully playable in Revelation, with the Combat and Exploration Deep Dive Trailer showcasing both their movesets in active battle scenarios.
Meanwhile, what the Story DLCs could entail remains to be seen, especially because they currently aren't set to drop until well after the initial game's release early next year (the usable items will be available upon release). For now, we only see placeholder dates with "April 2028" for both these Story DLCs, along with further description saying that, "This content is planned to be released between Winter 2027 and Spring 2028." This means whatever content they contain is meant to provide some means of closure for these characters awhile after the events of the main story, or perhaps something more.
For now, the Story Expansion Pass is available to those who purchase the Premium or Premium Plus Edition of Final Fantasy VII: Revelation, though it will also be available to purchase separately at a later date. Either way, you will need the base game to purchase and play the Story DLC content. No price for the Expansion Pass has been given as of yet.
