It's been a big few days for Physint, a Hideo Kojima game we still don't really know much about. After Kojima revealed that the deal to make the game under PlayStation had fallen through and he was now continuing to work on it with Xbox, the veteran game developer has now announced who will have the starring role in the highly anticipated stealth title.
Confirmed at Tokyo Game Show, the well-known Hollywood actor leading Physint will be Bill Skarsgård. A somewhat surprising reveal, as the expectation was that Robert Pattinson would be playing the game's main character, but that will not be the case. The announcement was coupled with a new poster for the game, shared by Kojima Productions, which shows Skarsgård alongside Charlee Fraser, who had already been confirmed to have a role in the game. Landing Skarsgård is a big deal, with the actor best known for his roles in It and, more recently, Nosferatu.
The new poster also features Don Lee and Minami Hamabe's names, both actors who, like Fraser, were already confirmed to have roles in Physint, and the PlayStation logo that was on the original poster has naturally been removed and replaced with an Xbox one.
Not only do the new reveals tell us a little more about Physint, but the tagline at the bottom of the poster gives us our best idea yet of what exactly this game might be about. "The next Cold War begins" is printed along the bottom of the new poster. Not much to go on, but my take from that will be that Physint takes place some time in the future, with an imminent threat of nuclear war dominating its narrative.
Physint is expected to be the closest thing to a Metal Gear game that Kojima has worked on since moving away from the iconic series to start his own studio and develop Death Stranding. That's why expectations for this game are so high, even though we still don't know all that much about it.
It's also why PlayStation deciding to drop the project came as such a surprise. Metal Gear games feel almost synonymous with PlayStation, and after the first Death Stranding was a timed PlayStation exclusive that sold millions, the decision to cut ties with Physint, and potentially do irreparable damage to its relationship with Kojima in the process, is a strange one. It's been claimed that PlayStation's decision was fueled by Physint being over budget and Kojima missing deadlines, as well as the Death Stranding games not making enough money.
