Tactical shooter fans were filled with optimism when Blue Dot Games, the developers behind Rising Storm 2: Vietnam, announced their ambitious new project, ’83. Promising 40v40 battles in a Cold War-gone-hot scenario, the game sought to hit that sweet spot of “accessible realism”, delivering hardcore, lethal infantry combat without sacrificing fast-paced action.
Unfortunately, despite a dedicated core audience and big ambitions, the reality of the modern PC multiplayer landscape has dealt a severe blow to the title, forcing the studio to make an extremely tough decision regarding its commercial future.
In a heartfelt statement shared on X (formerly Twitter), Blue Dot Games revealed that they have suspended sales of ’83 on Steam. The decision follows a challenging Early Access launch period where player numbers failed to reach the momentum necessary to sustain long-term development.
According to the development team, they had placed high hopes on a recent major content update, which was paired with a Steam discount, a free playable demo, and exposure during the FPS Games Show to reignite interest. However, those efforts were not enough to turn the tide and the game's concurrent user count remained significantly below what investors required to continue funding the road to a full 1.0 release.
And taking a quick look at SteamDB, things really don't look so hot: there are zero players online right now, a 24-hour peak of just 2 players, and its all-time peak occurred five months ago at 813 players.
