Stellar Blade Confirms Switch 2 Performance Details

Developer Shift Up stated that the upcoming Switch 2 port of Stellar Blade: Complete Edition will target 60 frames per second (FPS) and have different resolutions in handheld and docked modes. As one of the top action games of 2024, the Switch 2 version Stellar Blade will include the base game and all DLC content in one package.

The Switch 2 port of Stellar Blade was first unveiled during the June 9 Nintendo Direct broadcast. Shift Up and Nintendo confirmed that Stellar Blade will support gyro controls and mouse mode when played using Joy-Con 2 controllers. One month after the port was publicly unveiled, Stellar Blade: Complete Edition on Switch 2 received an ESRB rating of M for Mature for blood and gore, violence, language, and suggestive themes.

Following the annual Gamescom trade show, Shift Up chief technology officer Dong-ki Lee stated in an interview with Nintendo Everything that Stellar Blade: Complete Edition on Switch 2 will have an FPS target of 60 on Nintendo's console. The game will also be rendered at 720p in handheld mode and upscaled to 1080p while in docked mode. Lee said that, while the Switch 2 supports Nvidia DLSS upscaling thanks to the system's Tegra T239 processor, the development team had to reference Stellar Blade's PC port for one key feature. In short, the DLSS version used by Nintendo's system does not include any frame generation features that are present in Nvidia's graphics cards, such as the RTX 50 series.

To get around this hurdle, Lee said that Shift Up used a feature from AMD's FSR 3.1 upscaling technology, called "frame interpolation," to target 60 FPS. To avoid input lag being a problem when playing Stellar Blade on Switch 2, Lee said that the game will be set to 30 FPS before frame interpolation doubles it up to 60. Aside from being a game launching in 2026, Shift Up has not revealed exactly when Stellar Blade: Complete Edition will be available on Switch 2 as of this writing.

However, fans may not have to wait long for more news on Stellar Blade and other upcoming Switch 2 games. In response to leaks related to Just Dance: Decades of Hits, Ubisoft stated on Twitter that fans should wait until September 10 for more information. Given that Just Dance has traditionally utilized Nintendo Direct presentations as a way to share news, it is possible that Ubisoft accidentally shared when the next Nintendo Direct could happen. However, Nintendo has not yet confirmed when its next broadcast will go live, so fans should take any dates with a fine grain of salt.
