Pokemon GO has revealed the debut of the Gen 9 critters Maschiff and Mabosstiff for its upcoming Mega Squads event on September 8. In addition to the Paldean debuts, Pokemon GO will launch a new shiny variant and some Mega upgrades for previous fan-favorite monsters.
An exciting Halloween-themed era is on the way thanks to Pokemon GO's upcoming Twilight Trails season. As it usually goes with every new season, several new Pokemon are expected to join the game. The trailer has already confirmed the debut of Mega Chandelure and Mega Staraptor, and teased the return of costumed Espeon and Umbreon. The video also teased the release of the Paldean Dark-type critter Maschiff. Now, Pokemon GO has officially confirmed when the dog-like monster will debut in-game and how players can obtain it.
From Tuesday, September 8 to Monday, September 14, Pokemon GO will hold its Mega Squads event, which will release Maschiff and its evolution, Mabosstiff. Players have up to three methods that they can use to add Maschiff to their Pokedex. The first is by progressing through the limited GO Pass. The second and third methods require either completing event-themed Field Research tasks or hatching 5 km Eggs in Pokemon GO between September 11 at 10 AM and September 14 at 8 PM. It is worth adding that Maschiff can evolve into Mabosstiff with 50 Candy. Shiny Flamigo is also making its Pokemon GO debut during the event period. Meanwhile, Shiny Pidgey will spawn more frequently from September 8 to 11, and so will Shiny Carvanha from September 11 to 14.
As its name suggests, the Mega Squads event also focuses on Mega Pokemon. Starting from the event and onward, Mega Beedrill and Mega Houndoom will be able to reach Super Max Level. This means that they'll become eligible to obtain an extra Charged Attack while Mega Evolved. Mega Beedrill can learn Fell Stinger+ while Mega Houndoom will access Dark Pulse+. To help players strengthen their Pokemon faster, Mega Raids will feature Beedrill from September 8 to 15, and Houndoom from September 11 to 15. Moreover, Weedle and Houndour will have their own Spotlight Hours on September 10 and 13, respectively, from 6 PM to 7 PM.
Mega Houndoom is one of the best Mega Evolutions for Raids in Pokemon GO, so the Mega Squads event could be a great opportunity for fans to enhance their Houndoom. On the other hand, the event confirms that more day-old Mega Pokemon could become eligible for Super Max Level in the future as well. Some powerful monsters like Mega Tyranitar and Mega Gengar could really benefit from this upgrade. Hopefully for fans, these changes will come sooner rather than later.
There is still one last big event planned before the Forever Forward season wraps up. On September 5 and 6, GO Fest: Mega Finale will mark the return of Armored Mewtwo in Pokemon GO after six years. Many fans are already gearing up for the weekend, which will also feature several Super Mega Raids.
