Gege Akutami's Jujutsu Kaisen began officially on March 5, 2018, in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump Issue 14. The concept of sorcerers and Jujutsu sorcery was properly explained to us back then. Shortly afterward, some of the strongest sorcerers in the story were introduced, such as the King of Curses, Ryomen Sukuna, and Gojo Satoru, among others. As Jujutsu Kaisen continued, the idea of the strongest was also explored by Gege Akutami quite a lot. Different eras saw different strongest characters rise, but overall, there can only be one strongest character.
Taking into account all the events of the Jujutsu Kaisen world, it has now been confirmed officially through the final 2026 release of Gege Akutami's works that Yuji Itadori is the strongest of all time, surpassing even the likes of Gojo Satoru and Ryomen Sukuna.
In the original Jujutsu Kaisen story written by Gege Akutami, which began its run on March 5, 2018, Ryomen Sukuna was established as the strongest sorcerer in history. Sukuna was born in the Heian era, and due to having consumed his own twin, he was born with a body said to be perfect for Jujutsu. Sukuna had four arms and a giant mouth on his belly, which allowed him to utilize hand signs and incantations while fighting at full power. Sukuna was also blessed with an immensely powerful Cursed Technique of Shrine. This Cursed Technique was taken to the absolute maximum level by him, and in his era, he tested his skill constantly against the absolute best every single day. Eventually, Sukuna became a calamity that no one else could stand against, and his name was passed down in legends as well.
“More than 1000 years ago, when Sorcery was at its prime, Sorcerers gave it their all trying to take him down. But, to no avail. He was given his name, and after his death, they weren't able to destroy his waxed body, so it crossed into our world as a cursed object. He's undoubtedly the King of Curses!” — Gojo explains Sukuna, JJK Chapter #3
In the modern era, Gojo Satoru stood as the absolute strongest. Being born into the Gojo clan, he was blessed with the power of the Limitless and the Six Eyes, something that is incredibly rare. The last Gojo clan member to be born with both these powers at once came 400 years before Gojo, showing the rarity of the abilities that he held. Gojo, being a genius, took these powers to the absolute maximum level and became the strongest in the modern era.
“You were magnificent, Satoru Gojo! I shall never forget you for as long as I live!” — Sukuna beats Gojo, Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter #236
These two went head-to-head in the Shinjuku Showdown arc, and their battle concluded in JJK Chapter 236, where Ryomen Sukuna killed Gojo after the latter dropped his guard and went on to win the battle of the strongest. A case can be made for either Gojo or Sukuna to be the absolute strongest in the original series, but for the most part, these two were neck and neck. In the Modulo era, however, Yuji Itadori has now been confirmed to have surpassed both of them, as was evidently shown in the final 2026 volume release by the author Gege Akutami himself.
Yuji Itadori was born with tremendous potential. In fact, Kenjaku birthed him specifically to make him the perfect vessel for Ryomen Sukuna, and that alone gave him a lot of potential. Later down the line, he was bathed in the Cursed Energy of Ryomen Sukuna, and this gave him the exact same potential as the King of Curses. By adulthood, Yuji has fulfilled this potential and even taken the techniques that he gained from Sukuna beyond their limits. This automatically makes him an equal to the King of Curses, but there is more to him than just that.
