Master Armorers is an optional quest in The Witcher 3 that unlocks mastercraft armor crafting. Although you can start it fairly early in the game, completing the quest requires traveling to Skellige and progressing through a few specific missions there. To start Master Armorers, advance through the main story until you reach Crow's Perch during the Bloody Baron quest. Here, you can find Fergus, an armorer, and ask him about crafting mastercrafted armor. Yoanna, who works alongside him, will explain that Clan Tordarroch's tools can be used to craft the armor Geralt needs.
Travel to Skellige and head to the Clan Tordarroch Forge fast travel point if you have already unlocked it. If this is your first visit to Skellige, you will need to progress through the following quests:
This quest has quite a lot of objectives, most of which require you to use your Witcher Senses to follow footprints or tracks. One of these objectives will involve Hjalmar's crew in the caves. As you enter the cave, dive down into the water and deal with the erynias as you come out. You will still need to use your Witcher Senses to navigate through the cave.
Once you reach an area with a tree up ahead and Harpies flying around it, look to your left to spot a ladder taking you up. Continue along this path until you find some Devourers and, finally, an exit to the cave. After exiting, you will find a house on your right. Ignore it and look to the left for another cave entrance.
Inside, you will encounter an Ice Troll that you need to defeat. Once the area is clear, loot the chest on the left to obtain Deithwen, a Silver Sword, and the high-quality smithing tools.
With the tools in your possession, return to Fergus and tell him about your discovery. During the conversation, Harmon aep Groenkan will arrive and ask Fergus to make armor for him.
Yoanna will express her frustration and insist that she can make better armor herself, proving that she is the true master armorer. However, she needs gland acid from an archgriffin to complete her work.
