This week's chapter was especially ominous, as it officially sets up a dark fate for the protagonist Monkey D. Luffy. Luffy joined the battle against Imu at the end of One Piece Chapter 1186, which was released on June 29, 2026, in Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #31. Since then, he has continuously fought against Imu, despite being on death's door.
In One Piece chapter 1192, Usopp officially confirms Luffy's intent to die for the sake of his friends, as well as the country of Elbaf. This lines up a very dark fate for the Captain of the Straw Hat crew.

On the surface, this goes to show how immense Luffy's freedom is, but at the same time, it also shows us that Luffy has already acknowledged the idea that he may very well die here. This makes even more sense when taking into consideration the fact that he is fighting with severe injuries at the cost of his own life.

With each passing second, Luffy is growing weaker and is only holding on through sheer grit. The help he has gotten from Loki is not going to last long either, and sooner or later, Luffy is going to be on his last legs. The Straw Hat captain is doing everything he can for Elbaf, as was clear to see in One Piece chapter 1192 on September 6, and he will most certainly succeed in the defense of Elbaf, but the price to pay for that could very well be Luffy's own life. Luffy's defense of Elbaf could come at the cost of his life, which could very well see him face the same fate as his brother Ace.
Nerona Imu arrived on Elbaf in One Piece Chapter 1179, which was released on April 5, 2026, in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #19. Imu stated his primary reason for heading to Elbaf was to aid his Holy Knights, but more than that, to deal with the threat of Nika and Nidhoggr. So far, he has accomplished none of these goals, and it is increasingly unlikely for him to take control of Elbaf. As such, the primary goal of the Holy Knights is destined to fail, but taking down Nika and Nidhoggr is something that Imu cannot let slip from his grasp.
