Stellar Blade boss Kim Hyung-tae has suggested that he would like to collaborate with PlatinumGames on a new entry in the Bayonetta series. Stellar Blade was released on PlayStation 5 in 2024, and the game has been slowly making its way to other platforms. A version for PC was released in 2025, and the game is set to appear on Nintendo Switch 2 on November 5.
On the game's Switch 2 launch day, Stellar Blade will receive DLC based on Bayonetta. The DLC won't just be offered for Switch 2 owners, however, and will be made available on PS5 and PC, as well. Four suits will be released in total: Bayonetta, Jeanne, Nun, and an original design called Black Tresses, created by Kim. Stellar Blade developer Shift Up worked with PlatinumGames on the collaboration, resulting in faithful designs that should appeal to fans of the Bayonetta games.
In an interview with Famitsu, Shift Up's Kim Hyung-tae and PlatinumGames CEO Atsushi Inaba discussed the Bayonetta collaboration content coming to Stellar Blade. Inaba previously served as an executive producer on all entries of the Bayonetta series, and the two creators both offered praise for one another's works during the discussion. Bayonetta creator Hideki Kamiya left PlatinumGames in 2023, and the future of the series remains a big question among fans. However, Kim told Famitsu that he would be interested in designing characters for a new Bayonetta game, and hoped for future collaborations with PlatinumGames.
Inaba did not publicly take up Kim on the offer, merely stating that he would be interested in collaborating with Shift Up in the future. Given the complicated nature of video game development and the current status of Bayonetta, it's unclear if anything more will come of the offer from Kim. Still, the prospect should offer some hope for Bayonetta fans hoping to see the series make a comeback. Bayonetta 3 ended on a controversial note, and a fourth game in the series could help to turn things around.

It's unclear when (or if) another Bayonetta game will see release, but owner Sega has not forgotten about the series. Collaborations have been a way to keep the game's titular witch in the minds of fans, and it's not just Stellar Blade that will be getting crossover content. Bayonetta is coming to Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, appearing as the game's next free playable character. Bayonetta content also appeared in The First Descendant in 2025.
Bayonetta has had a unique history. All entries in the series were developed by PlatinumGames, but the property is owned by Sega. After the first game, Nintendo stepped in as a publisher for the series. As such, Bayonetta 2 and 3 were both released exclusively on Nintendo platforms, alongside the 2023 prequel Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon. The prospect of Shift Up coming in to help resurrect Bayonetta doesn't seem all that unusual given everything that's happened since the first game's release back in 2009. However, fans will have to wait and see if the two companies can find a way to deliver Bayonetta 4 in some capacity.
