A new mod for the 2019 remake of Resident Evil 2 has added the movie character Bryan Hodukavich to the game. The new release is available freely, so anyone who wants to revisit the film via Resident Evil 2 can do so.
The Zack Cregger Resident Evil movie reboot has been a major success, with the story featuring an original character, Bryan. Bryan finds himself caught up in the Raccoon City outbreak while attempting to perform a last-minute delivery of an organ to be transplanted. The film has received rave reviews from critics and viewers, and it seems that some have been left wanting more of the experience, based upon this new mod.
A new mod for the PC version of the Resident Evil 2 remake has been released that puts Bryan in the shoes of Leon S. Kennedy. The mod is a joint project between creators mindnumb_opus and D0ct0rSauce, and serves as a replacement for Leon's 98 costume in the game. Since the mod replaces Leon's retro costume, this version of Bryan has been modeled in a similar style, giving him a blocky PS1-style appearance based upon his look early in the film. While he looks comically out of place with the photorealistic setting, Leon's 98 costume did too, so fans likely won't mind.
Interested fans can pick up the mod on NexusMods. According to the listing, it doesn't require any additional mods to work, and can be installed with the Fluffy Mod Manager. Players shouldn't expect any real differences in gameplay, so the game should proceed as normal - just with Bryan in Leon's proverbial shoes. However, the swap will essentially make Bryan act as a more capable figure in the zombie outbreak, as while Leon is a rookie cop, he's still better prepared for the nightmare the outbreak presents than Bryan was.

The movie and the Resident Evil 2 mod arrive at a good time, as the series is currently in a bit of a lull following the launch of the film. The next announced game isn't expected to arrive until 2027, and even then, Resident Evil Veronica is rumored to be delayed, so players may have to wait longer than they'd like for their next infusion of the survival horror series. However, Capcom is attempting to turn Resident Evil into an annual release franchise, so even if Veronica does experience a delay, players should still have plenty more to look forward to as the years go by.
The survival horror genre as a whole has been experiencing something of a comeback in recent years, with titles like Resident Evil and Silent Hill leading the way. Unfortunately, unlike Resident Evil, the most recent Silent Hill film, Return to Silent Hill, received significantly negative reviews from critics and viewers. However, there's a chance that there could be hope for the franchise in the future, if recent developments are any indication. The same producer behind the Resident Evil film reboot has teased that he's also involved with a Silent Hill project, though he didn't specifically state what it is. However, if his involvement helps to reboot the Silent Hill series for the silver screen as has just happened with Resident Evil, both survival horror franchises could end up thriving as both games and movies.
