One of the most surprising announcements during today's big Nintendo Direct was the confirmation that the Resident Evil remakes are finally being ported to Switch 2.
As I'm sure all of you know, it's been a very busy few weeks in gaming. Gamescom Opening Night Live might not have brought the goods, but GTA 6's gameplay reveal, a backloaded State of Play, and yesterday's 40th anniversary Zelda Direct more than made up for it. Today goes even further with another Nintendo Direct that's more of a general showcase.
Since this Direct was confirmed to exclusively focus on Nintendo Switch 2 games, of which we only know a few that are planned, that raised expectations for some big announcements. That ended up being exactly what we got, as today's Nintendo Direct revealed that Resident Evil 2, 3, and 4 are coming to Switch 2 next month.
During today's Nintendo Direct, one of the most surprising reveals was that Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3, and Resident Evil 4 are all coming to Nintendo Switch 2 next month. We've had a few Resident Evil games ported to the Switch 2, including Resi 7, Village, and the recent Requiem, but the remakes have been completely missing.
That's finally changing on October 16, as all three of the missing Resident Evil remakes are arriving on Switch 2. For now, it looks like it's just the digital versions launching then, but we'll hopefully get physical releases later down the line as well. From what we saw of the ports, they seem to run really well, which isn't too surprising after Requiem wowed us all.
As it turns out, the Resident Evil remakes are getting a physical release, as the official Resi account confirmed that they'll be arriving January 2027. Let's hope that's worldwide and not Japan exclusive.
