The Ark Survival Ascended Cerberax arrives in the dinosaur survival game at the end of September, and is a powerful three-person mount.
Ark: Survival Ascended has a new beast in town, and yet its immense presence and the immediate sense of danger is taking a back seat to the desire to give it a head rub. The Cerberax is a three-headed pup that draws clear inspiration from Greek mythology favorite Cerberus, but Studio Wildcard has given the guardian of the underworld a fresh twist here with a trio of deadly flavors. Manage to tame it, however, and this very good boy has enough space to bring two additional friends along for the ride, unleashing its powers in a devastating combination.
The Cerberax is the second addition to Fantastic Tames Season 1, following the arrival of the Burrowbuck in Ark: Survival Ascended back in May. Its heads boast the elements of fire, lightning, and venom respectively, and the developer promises that "convincing all three that you're worth following might prove just as dangerous as fighting the beast itself." Before you even attempt to get it on your side in the survival game, however, it's worth studying the Cerberax's biology to learn how it fights.
Cerberax tricipitis, to give it its full name, is a big dog. Studio Wildcard notes that it's more than capable of taking on the likes of a Tyrannosaurus Rex or an Ossidon in a fair fight, and indeed that "anything short of a Giga or Carcha is going to have a tough time" against it. That bulk makes it both imposing and durable, and the developer recommends effects such as bleed to help overcome that tankiness if you're going head-to-head with one yourself.
Its three heads have separate tactics, but benefit from one another's effects. "The right head applies fire to subdue its prey, while consuming venom to cripple it," Studio Wildcard explains. "The left head applies venom to weaken its prey, while consuming fire to heal its body." The central head is the leader, and "acts as an electrical catalyst," amplifying the damage of both its flanks, along with causing their respective elements to spread to other nearby targets.
In order to tame a Cerberax, you'll need to juggle all three heads at once. When subdued using narcotics, "all its adrenaline surges to a single head." Start by mounting that one and placating it. As it begins to wear down, another will wake in its place, and you'll need to bring all three to the point of submission before you can win it over to your side. Once tamed, the main rider (on the central head) can be joined by two other players on the left and right sides to unleash its full combat potential in concert.
The Cerberax joins Ark: Survival Ascended on Wednesday September 30 as part of the Fantastic Tames Season 1 DLC, which is priced at $9.99 / £7.49. The package can be found here; it also includes the Burrowbuck, an "evasive utility creature" that can carve out underground dens, or tunnel to travel distances at speed. The third and final member, the Enigmasaur, is a chameleon-like "master of disguise" scheduled to launch in November.
That's not all you can expect when September ends, however. On the same day, Studio Wildcard is planning to release the Unreal Engine 5.8 update for Ark: Survival Ascended, along with the TLC overhaul for the Therizinosaurus, while owners of the Dragontopia DLC will gain access to the Gargantar.
