Capcom has revealed that the six most recent games in the Resident Evil series will all soon be available for purchase on Nintendo Switch 2. The Resident Evil franchise has a long history on Nintendo systems, but Switch owners somewhat missed out on the series. Capcom made many of its older games available on Nintendo's previous platform, but this mostly resulted in ports like Resident Evil 0 and Resident Evil Revelations. Meanwhile, newer games ended up on PlayStation 5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S.
Multiple Resident Evil games also got cloud versions on Switch, but these proved to be largely unpopular. Cloud versions require a stable internet connection to play, thus going against the portability that many people associate with the system. Native releases for games like Resident Evil Village probably would have required too many technical compromises on the original Switch, but Capcom seems to be taking advantage of the more powerful Switch 2 hardware.
The start of the Switch 2 era has seen Capcom once again prioritizing Nintendo for its Resident Evil games. During the Capcom Spotlight on September 16, the publisher highlighted the fact that six of the most recent games in the series are now or will soon be available on Nintendo Switch 2. Resident Evil Requiem came to Switch 2 on launch day, alongside Resident Evil 7 Gold Edition and Resident Evil Village Gold Edition. After starting 2026 on a high note, the lineup will grow on October 16, with the releases of Resident Evil 2 Deluxe Edition, Resident Evil 3, and Resident Evil 4 Gold Edition. These versions include all the previously released DLC.
All three of the Resident Evil games coming to Switch 2 on October 16 will be accompanied by early adopter discounts on the eShop. Resident Evil 2 Deluxe Edition has a 25% discount, Resident Evil 3 has a 34% discount, and Resident Evil 4 Gold Edition has a 20% discount. These discounts are available for those who pre-order, but the sales will remain intact through November 7. Capcom's previous Resident Evil games on Switch 2 received physical releases with Game-Key Cards, and the same should happen for the next three in January 2027. However, these physical options have not been confirmed for North America yet.

The Switch 2 versions of these Resident Evil games should give new audiences a chance to experience what the series has to offer, especially those who skipped out on the cloud versions on the original Switch. Resident Evil 2 has been a massive seller for Capcom since its debut in 2019, recently taking the spot as the best-selling game in the series. The 1998 version truly put the Resident Evil series on the map, and the remake has also proven hugely successful.
Capcom's strong support for Nintendo Switch 2 will continue into 2027. The company has already confirmed that Resident Evil: Veronica will be released on the system the same day as the versions on other platforms. The Resident Evil — Code: Veronica remake does not have a set release date just yet, but with 2027 quickly approaching, Capcom should divulge more information in the near future. Fans are also waiting for details about the story DLC for Resident Evil Requiem, though rumors suggest that it won't be released until sometime after Resident Evil: Veronica comes out.
