Final Fantasy's 40th anniversary is fast approaching in 2027, and Square Enix has announced a brand-new release to mark the occasion. This official new Final Fantasy launch gives fans something to look forward to as the franchise nears a huge milestone.
Next year will be enormous for Final Fantasy. There's no doubt Square Enix has plenty up its sleeve to mark the 40th anniversary, not least the release of Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, which will conclude the critically acclaimed remake trilogy. That game is set to launch in April 2027, and fans will be able to get their hands on another brand-new release at the same time.
On the Square Enix Store, fans can now pre-order Volume 1 of the new Square Enix Gallery Cards, which includes a special pack to celebrate Final Fantasy's 40th anniversary. The collection features 180 different cards, using 97 pieces of artwork from the entire Final Fantasy series, including some that are newly illustrated just for this release. Each pack contains five cards, and each display box includes 10 packs. Each display box costs $49.90. Square Enix reiterates that purchasing a box of 10 packs does not guarantee every card type.
These cards come in different rarities, with standard cards in Common, Uncommon, Rare, and Legend Rare. However, the collection also "offers unique and fun gimmicks made possible by Japan's cutting-edge holographic and printing technologies." Phantom Legend Rare cards feature 3D hologram effects, while Harmonic Rare cards include NFC functionality that lets fans enjoy music alongside the artwork. The set also includes one Ultima Legend Rare card, featuring a digital signature from Yoshitaka Amano and a serial number.

Pre-orders for this new Final Fantasy 40th anniversary release are open right now. However, they aren't expected to be released until April 2027, lining up with the release of Final Fantasy 7 Revelation.
