Xbox Game Pass is adding Thronefall on November 11, the same day the minimalist strategy game makes its debut on the Series X/S and receives its very first piece of downloadable content. While several other titles are already expected to join the service in November 2026, Thronefall is the month's first confirmed Xbox Game Pass addition with an officially announced release date.
Originally developed by German studio GrizzlyGames, Thronefall is a genre hybrid combining elements of tower defense and city-building games into a sleek-looking experience that is easy to get into. Players spend each day developing a small kingdom, balancing investments in its economy and defenses before protecting it against enemy waves at night. The game entered Steam Early Access in August 2023, with its 1.0 version launching for PC and the Nintendo Switch in October 2024.
British publisher Mythwright revealed Thronefall's first expansion, Craaghelm, on September 25, announcing it alongside the Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 ports of the 2024 title. Both the DLC and the new versions of the minimalist strategy will launch on November 11, 2026, the same day Thronefall makes its newly confirmed Xbox Game Pass debut. As is customarily the case, only the base game will be available via Microsoft's subscription service, with Craaghelm sold separately for an as-yet-undisclosed price.
While day-one Xbox Game Pass releases are typically restricted to the PC Game Pass and XGP Ultimate libraries, titles such as Thronefall represent a somewhat different case. When only one platform version is launching for the first time while the game itself is already available on other platforms, such additions have also been known to reach the Premium tier immediately. The most recent example came on July 20, when The Planet Crafter made its Xbox Series X/S debut while simultaneously joining the three highest Xbox Game Pass tiers. Based on that precedent, Thronefall is also expected to become immediately available through the mid-range Premium membership.
GrizzlyGames' 2024 RTS launched to overwhelmingly positive reviews, as underscored by its "Mighty" rating on OpenCritic, based on an average score of 86 and a 100% recommendation rate. Many reviewers praised Thronefall as an accessible strategy experience that is immediately fun while still offering considerable depth through layers upon layers of opportunities for incremental town refinement and defense optimization. Its newly announced Xbox Game Pass launch thus appears poised to strengthen the service's selection of critically acclaimed strategy games.
Craaghelm centers on a new campaign in which players take control of the last Dwarven King and attempt to reclaim an ancestral mountain stronghold from mechanical Constructs. The expansion adds eight themed maps featuring hazards and obstacles such as lava streams, moving platforms, and blocked choke points, alongside new Thronefall units, currencies, weapons, perks, and mutators. Its additions range from Axe Throwers, Airships, and Walker Tanks to new enemies such as the Clockwork Oliphaunt, Loot Goblins, and Leap Bots, significantly expanding the strategic options and challenges available in the base game.
