Nintendo Officially Reveals The Legend of Zelda: Master Collection

The Legend of Zelda is having a pretty big year, with Nintendo celebrating its 40th anniversary in various ways, including the upcoming release of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake and the recent announcement of the Master Collection. Games are certainly the focus, but the celebration doesn't end there, with Nintendo announcing new hardware, amiibo, collectibles, music, and other merchandise tied to The Legend of Zelda. There is clearly going to be no shortage of ways for fans to celebrate the franchise throughout the anniversary.

That makes sense considering just how much history The Legend of Zelda has built up over the past four decades. Nintendo has plenty of games, characters, locations, and items to pull from, giving the company a lot of material to work with for anniversary products. Honestly, the company seems more reserved than some fans perhaps expected. Beyond the Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake, other projects like a new LEGO set and a Master Sword toy are giving collectors even more to look forward to, among many others, including the Master Collection.

Another collectible has now been revealed, as Nintendo is working with Italian company Panini on a The Legend of Zelda: Master Collection trading card set. The cards will feature artwork from games throughout The Legend of Zelda series, and the collection will also have a special album designed to give fans somewhere to store their cards. While not exhaustive, the TCG features everything from the original Legend of Zelda games and N64 and GameCube classics like Wind Waker and Twilight Princess to more modern games, like the Wilds Era Zelda games and Echoes of Wisdom. The trading card set was shown during the European presentation of the 40th Anniversary Direct.

The Legend of Zelda: Master Collection appears to be designed primarily as a collectible, rather than as a traditional trading card game. The cards shown so far feature artwork and characters from different parts of The Legend of Zelda's history, allowing the set to pull from decades of games instead of focusing on one particular release. Panini is also well known for its collectible sticker and card products, making the company a fitting partner for a project built around collecting artwork from across The Legend of Zelda.

Unfortunately, Nintendo has not shared many specifics about The Legend of Zelda: Master Collection yet. There is currently no release date, price, total number of cards, or detailed information about how the set will be distributed. It is also unclear whether The Legend of Zelda: Master Collection will eventually be released outside of Europe, as the announcement was only shown during the European presentation.

The Legend of Zelda 40th anniversary celebration is already giving collectors plenty to look forward to, and the Master Collection adds another option for fans who want something physical from the series. Yet, with all the nostalgic anniversary releases, it's worth mentioning that the franchise has a bright future full of new releases too. While unconfirmed, rumors suggest there are 3 Legend of Zelda games in development right now (at the very least).
