Nintendo announced a Halloween kind of Pokemon Pokopia event that will give us a chance to unlock Pumpkaboo and Gourgeist and pick up spooky items. Pumpkaboo’s Sweet Surprises starts on October 17, 2026, then runs until November 1, 2026.
The Japanese version of the announcement offered more details about how Pumpaboo’s Sweet Surprises will work in Pokemon Pokopia. How it works is we’ll need to use our Ditto’s Transform ability, which they learn from Zorua, to scare Pokemon to get Candy. That can then be spent in Pumpkaboo’s temporary shop at the Pokemon Center during the event. We can trade that for nine different types of new decorations.
While Pumpaboo will hang around the Pokemon Center after the event ends and can be moved into a habitat, the items acquired during the Halloween Pokemon Pokopia will be able to be used to create a Gourgeist habitat. This will cause the evolved version to show up and move to town.
Here are the first screenshots showing how things will look during the event. One of them looks looks like Cofagrigus’ coffin and the balloons feature Pikachu and Drifloon ones.
Pokemon Pokopia is available for the Switch 2 and the Pumpkaboo’s Sweet Surprises Halloween event with Gourgeist runs October 17, 2026 through November 1, 2026. The most recent event brought Bulbasaur Jump Rope Contest back.
