Dave Bautista has posted a new video showing his body transformation for Kratos in the new God of War TV show.
Bautista was officially cast as Kratos in the God of War TV series last month and he has wasted no time prepping for the role. The actor shared a video on Instagram flexing his new physique, noting that he has been weight training for three weeks and has two months to "get to where he needs to be."
Unlike other roles where an actor might have six to twelve months or more to prepare, Bautista has to hit the ground running. The God of War TV series began shooting earlier this year with actor Ryan Hurst in the role of Kratos. Unfortunately, Hurst got injured (after also putting in the work at the gym for the role) and will be out of commission until next year. Amazon made the decision to recast the role and quickly hired Dave Bautista, who now has just a couple of months to get into Kratos-level shape. The show is expected to restart production in October, meaning Bautista won't have much time to rest.
The actor had recently lost a ton of weight and muscle after years of starring in action movies and being a professional wrestler. While Bautsita made sense as Kratos five years ago, some began to question if he was the right choice due to him being much slimmer. Bautista seems to be interested in proving the naysayers wrong and is hitting the weight room to get real beefy before stepping into the shoes of a gaming god.
Christopher Judge, the actor who plays Kratos in the current God of War games, revealed he auditioned to play the character in live-action. However, he ultimately took himself out of the running because he didn't want to work 12 - 18 hour days, have an intense diet, or work out constantly at 62 years old.
