Police Simulator’s straightforward title tells you exactly what kind of experience you're getting into. GTA 6 will be released soon and put you in the familiar video game role of being a criminal, which is common enough both within and beyond the franchise. It's rarer to find an option like Police Simulator that puts you on the right side of the law, although there are other games that give you the job of catching criminals instead of being one.

We had the pleasure of getting a look at an early build of Police Simulator that was shared at Gamescom, and as somebody who loves the entire simulation genre in gaming, I look forward to seeing how this alpha build develops between now and its official release, which is currently set to be at some point in 2027. Even in its alpha build, the game already looks solid.

Police Simulator is the next entry in the series of the same name, so you might already be familiar with it to some extent. If you aren't, then think of it as a job simulator that puts you in the role of a police officer, similar to how Supermarket Simulator puts you in the role of somebody who owns a small supermarket. Most tasks are mundane, such as handing out parking tickets. Police officers have rather unpredictable jobs, however, and you can go from a mundane task to a car chase without warning, which is reflected in Police Simulator.

You could also spot a crime happening while working on your tasks for that day, which was seen in part of the Gamescom presentation when a jaywalker is spotted, and you can then go give them a warning, a ticket, or just ignore them. So, you could be chaotic and ignore your duties or give tickets and charges to people that they don't deserve, but being a decent officer gives you points and opens up more of the map.

Police Simulator is set in a fictional town called Faremont City that's meant to be reminiscent of the East Coast of the United States. You'll be able to experience over 50 missions, unlock three districts, and even bring a human friend into the game to play co-op with you. This game takes the foundation of its predecessors and improves on basically every element.

The feature that we've been asking for is finally being brought into Police Simulator, and that would be K9 units. You don't have to use a K9 partner, although I can't imagine why you wouldn't want to, but it's one method that's available to help you complete tasks, such as finding evidence and chasing suspects. As an officer, you have a variety of resources you can use, so you're able to solve issues in different ways instead of being forced to play in one specific way. Since the preview was limited, I didn't get to see this for myself, but the team confirmed that this would be the case.
