Some fans of Persona 4 have been pushing a Yosuke romance route for decades, but Atlus' series continues to shy away from including gay relationships.
For many, upcoming remake Persona 4 Revival presented the perfect opportunity: the Japanese developer could acknowledge the demand for gay romance by finally allowing players to confess their feelings to Yosuke.
For context, the relationship between Persona 4's protagonist and Yosuke has often been viewed as something more than a deep friendship, amplified by the fact that unused voice lines — in both Japanese and English — suggest that there was a potential romance on the cards at some point during development.
However, producer Kazuhisa Wada has shot down the recent speculation, confirming that there won't be any additional romance options in Persona 4 Revival.
Speaking to GamesRadar, Wada explains that while he and the team were "aware that some people were talking online" about the Yosuke situation, introducing new romance routes would simply be unfeasible given the remake's development timeline.
"We were thinking, if we did Yosuke, we kind of would have to do all the other male characters as well. And if we did that, that is a lot of work. So we were thinking about our time and schedule. I don't know if we could actually handle this, so we decided to let Yosuke float on by."
As you can imagine, Wada's explanation hasn't gone down especially well with more expectant fans, who feel as though Atlus' aversion to same sex relationships has become a problem.
