Flax is a harvestable crop in Valheim that players can find growing inside Fuling Villages in the Plains biome. Goblin settlements usually have crop plots inside them that have either Barley or Flax growing on them. If you spot a patch of Flax growing in one of these villages, raid them, take the crops, and bring them back home. You can use a single piece of Flax in Valheim to start a farm of your own, allowing you to get all the Flax you need without having to fight anything.
As you explore the Plains biome, you'll eventually find villages filled with Fulings. These villages may have Flax crops growing in them — take out the Fulings, then pick the fully-grown Flax plants that they've been cultivating, like an actual Viking raider.
You may occasionally find Flax inside chests all over the Plains biome. Fuling Villages tend to have multiple chests in them. They won't always have stuff you're looking for, but they're always worth checking out, especially if you need to stock up on Coins.
Expect to deal with a variety of Fulings in every village, and they're all very dangerous. Make sure to eat the right food and bring the best gear you got.
Once you get your first batch of Flax from raiding Fulings, I highly recommend you set all of them aside for farming. Instead of needing seeds, entire Flax crops can be planted on tilled ground directly. By doing this, you'll be able to double the amount of Flax you have, as each fully-grown crop will yield two Flax.
To farm in Valheim, all you need is the Cultivator, which you can craft at a Level 1 Forge using Bronze and Corewood. Cultivators will let you till ground and plant seeds/crops.
Use the Cultivator as you would a hoe to turn regular dirt into tilled soil. Next, press your secondary action button to open the Cultivator's menu, then pick Flax. Plant the Flax on the tilled soil, and make sure there's enough space between each crop. Otherwise, they won't grow.
Flax takes 2–3 in-game days to fully mature, so it's definitely worth planting big batches at a time in order to get all the Flax you need for crafting equipment.
