One of the biggest announcements of Gamescom 2026 week was that of The Witcher 3: Remastered, which officially arrives on September 29th as a free upgrade for those who already own the game (at least digitally, and seemingly even physically) on Xbox and other platforms.
Today, the Community Director at CD Projekt Red has been revealing a few more details about what to expect from the remaster, confirming that its treated as an "update to the existing game", meaning you won't have to start again if you've already got a save file, and any Xbox achievements you've acquired will remain unlocked.
They've also been responding to various questions in the comments, confirming that the revamped skill tree in the remaster will mean that your skills are reset "so you can redistribute them right away", and that console mods will arrive alongside the remaster on September 29th.
So, unlike the recent Mafia: Definitive Edition upgrade, for example, The Witcher 3: Remastered won't have its own separate version for Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S - you'll just see an update ready to download on September 29th.
Nevertheless, this seems like a massive improvement to an already timeless game, and we're sure it's going to be well worth checking out later this month. It's also worth noting that some people are getting "Just For You" deals for The Witcher 3 - Complete Edition on the Xbox Store right now (although we aren't here at Pure Xbox HQ), while the game is also part of the Xbox Disc to Digital feature that remains exclusive to Xbox Insiders for at least a few weeks.
