A new online game lets players take control of a real gun turret in a shooting range and fire live rounds without ever leaving their house.
Shov.com connects players through their phone or web browser to remote-controlled pneumatic turrets, which fire less-lethal .68-caliber rounds at targets inside a secure facility somewhere in the US. The entire arena is livestreamed, meaning you’re watching the actual guns respond to your controls rather than a virtual recreation.
Standard matches last just 90 seconds, with players tasked with aiming their turret and hitting as many targets as possible. Whoever finishes with the highest number of confirmed hits wins the round.
There are 12 full-auto turrets in the arena, and any unoccupied positions are automatically taken over by AI players. Entry into one match costs 5 credits ($5) and grants you unlimited ammo, but there’s also a more chaotic option for anyone who doesn’t want to share.
Players can spend 100 credits ($100) to take over the entire private arena, giving them control of all 12 turrets.
Matches are held back-to-back with a small break in between, and they’re all streamed live on the website, so you can still watch even if you don’t want to participate.
Despite the unusual setup, Shov stresses that it’s all completely safe. No real people are ever downrange during a match, none of the equipment ever leaves its shooting range, and players can only send commands remotely from their own device.
