Bungie surprised players last month by announcing its intention to bring back Destiny 2 campaigns and other additions taken out of the game over the years. When that 'unvaulting' plan was initially announced, Bungie didn't share any specifics, nor a timeline as to when we can expect the things to return.
Now, the developer is finally offering some hints. Bungie head of product, Josh Deane, revealed that Bungie is close to sharing a progress update. "I know there are a lot of questions on the how, what, when of unvaulting. Including any potential future updates to D2 and what's beyond for Destiny," Deane wrote on X in a post only recently spotted by The Game Post. "There's going to be a very intentional process for all of it that will take time."
Deane said Bungie will begin "talking about what our first step is going to look like with more clarity" at the end of October, which we're coming close to now. The Bungie boss also said the development update won't come in the form of a traditional roadmap. Instead, Bungie views it as "a progress bar" the studio hopes will "bring you all closer, more consistently to our dev milestones".
"Just be transparent about any challenges we run into and show you the proof of work along the way that unlocks further understanding," Deane explained. "That way when we share a release date we're all on the same page and have the right expectations that leads directly into how we'll further celebrate Destiny's legacy and vision for the future."
Following the 'unvaulting' Destiny 2 announcement, a Forbes report shed more light on what players can realistically expect from Bungie. The report said that removed campaigns, raids and destinations are coming back, but not expired live seasons. It also suggested that work shouldn't be taken to mean Destiny 2 is back in active development.
In June, Bungie released one final major Destiny 2 update as it announced the end of active development of the shooter-MMO. The update added much-requested features, fixed some longstanding issues and even introduced new things to play. It reignited interest in the game, seemingly enough to convince Bungie to kickstart efforts to bring back deleted content.
