Update [Thu 1st Oct 2026, 4:15pm]: 4A Games has now confirmed Metro 2033 Redux and Metro: Last Light Redux are getting native PS5 versions, and anyone who already owns the games qualifies for a free upgrade.
Both of the new versions are coming on 29th October 2026, and they sport PS5-specific improvements:
Players on console can experience true 4K at 60FPS and upscaled 4K at 120FPS (with the right monitor or TV hardware), higher quality lighting, shadows and particle effects. Plus, we are supporting Adaptive Triggers for DualSense controllers and Impulse Triggers on Xbox controllers. Players will also benefit from hardware tessellation and displacement at runtime on consoles, Power Optimized Mode on Xbox and Power Saver Mode support for PlayStation.
Original Story: Metro 2033 and Metro: Last Light appear to be on their way to PS5 in the form of native versions, if two fresh ESRB age ratings are to be believed.
Spotted by Wario64, the Redux versions of the two games have received age ratings for PS5 versions, which don't exist currently, nor have been announced publicly. This would suggest that 4A Games has plans to put out new versions of the two titles, as the Redux branding was used when they came to PS4, having originally released on PS3.
Of course, this would work nicely in the lead-in to Metro 2039, which is coming to PS5 on 4th February 2027. Should these ports come to fruition, then the entire Metro franchise will be playable natively on PS5. All the releases have been accessible via backwards compatibility, but this work would let you have a PS5 emblem next to Metro 2033 and Metro: Last Light.
Both were fantastic, atmospheric, and intense shooters for their day, and are still worth playing today — especially since Metro 2039 is returning to that more linear structure instead of expanding on Metro Exodus.
When we reviewed the Metro Redux release on PS4 that contained both titles in question, we awarded an 8/10 score and said:
