It's no secret that September 2026 is going to be an incredibly busy month for the gaming industry, but it's going to be especially busy for Nintendo Switch 2 gamers that like co-op games. Partly thanks to its backward compatibility with the original Switch, the Nintendo Switch 2 has a massive library of co-op games for fans to check out. Some of these are online-only, some are local co-op, some allow for GameShare, and others support all co-op options.
Co-op gamers are always on the lookout for new experiences that they can share with their friends, and luckily, the Switch 2 is delivering in September. There's a nice variety of co-op games on offer, from an It Takes Two-style sci-fi adventure that's getting great reviews to a new Xbox-published game that takes its cues from Diablo. Switch 2 gamers can mark their calendars for the new co-op games hitting the platform this month.
Perhaps the biggest Switch 2 co-op game releasing in September is set to launch on September 3 in the form of Orbitals. Orbitals is a co-op-only sci-fi adventure game that has drawn comparisons to It Takes Two. Orbitals has earned mostly positive reviews from critics so far, and its status as a Switch 2 exclusive may make it even more interesting to owners of Nintendo's latest home console/handheld hybrid. Orbitals will be joined by Valheim on September 9, RuneScape: Dragonwilds on September 15, and both Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 and Minecraft Dungeons 2 on September 29.
Valheim and RuneScape: Dragonwilds should both appeal to survival game fans on Switch 2. Valheim offers a viking theme and incorporates Norse mythology, while RuneScape: Dragonwilds features a vibrant, colorful, medieval fantasy world. Both games have been in early access for quite some time and both have been well-received there, so their upcoming 1.0 releases should be surefire bets on the Switch 2.

The two co-op games releasing on September 29 will scratch a very different itch. Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 is a 4-player co-op third-person shooter where players mow down xenomorphs, whereas Minecraft Dungeons 2 is a Diablo-like action-RPG. Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 is already available on other platforms and has admittedly received mixed reviews, but it may still appeal to fans of the franchise looking for something to play with their friends. Minecraft Dungeons 2 is unproven, but the original Minecraft Dungeons was solid.
Beyond co-op games, there are also some exciting single-player games for Switch 2 gamers to look forward to in September. The big headliner is Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave, set to launch for the Switch 2 on September 17. Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave gameplay looks ambitious and like it may very well be the biggest entry in the series to date, so Switch 2 owners should definitely keep an eye out for when the reviews drop.
