The ESRB rating for Fortnite has recently been updated to include “suggestive themes”, and the description makes it clear exactly which skin it’s referring to.
Although Fortnite certainly isn’t just for kids, it’s fair to say that Epic Games has put a lot of work into making the game as family-friendly and accessible as possible. That includes being especially careful when it comes to the game’s many skins and emotes, which have always avoided being anything close to revealing.
Not only are most Fortnite original skins completely covered up, but collabs with characters you’d expect to be a little more out there are also noticeably toned down. That all-ages approach took a massive turn earlier this year, which is now even being reflected in the game’s ESRB rating.
As pointed out by Forbes, Fortnite’s official ESRB rating was recently updated to include the “Suggestive Themes” category, which the ratings board says refers to “mild provocative references or materials”. I’m sure you can already see where this is going, but the updated description makes it even clearer.
Fortnite’s rating now warns that players can run into “a female character depicted with”, ahem, “deep inner cleavage and lower breast exposure”. This cements that the skin that’s being referred to is none other than the Hot Bat Summer Poison Ivy, easily the most revealing skin of both the collab and the game as a whole.
Justice for Hot Bat Summer Batman with his whole nips out.
While Catwoman and Harley Quinn’s Hot Bat Summer outfits were more revealing than what we’re used to in Fortnite, Poison Ivy’s is the only one to match that specific description. It’s not clear if Ivy is specifically responsible for “Suggestive Themes” being added to Fortnite or if the whole collab played a part, but I imagine it’s a bit of both.
Of course, now that Fortnite’s ESRB rating has been updated to allow for more adult themes, it’s likely that we’ll see more collabs like Hot Bat Summer in the future. Some recent Fortnite originals have even been a bit more risque, so it looks like Epic has finally given in to a very specific audience.
