Gran Turismo 7 has announced its massive Spec IV update, featuring several new cars, circuits, and game modes. The update will be released in two parts - one in October and one in December 2026. Gran Turismo 7 has teased Spec IV as part of the franchise's anniversary celebrations.
It has been over four years since Polyphony Digital's popular racing game launched, but Gran Turismo 7 is still going strong. In December 2025, the game released its Spec III update, which at the time was its most ambitious patch yet, with eight new cars, two racing tracks, and other improvements. Now, the dev team has confirmed an even bigger release for late 2026, which will also tap into nostalgia for veteran Gran Turismo fans.
During the latest State of Play livestream, Gran Turismo 7 shared a first look at its upcoming Spec IV update, divided into two halves. The first part is scheduled for October, while the second is set for December 2026. A total of 12 new cars and two new circuits will come to the game, along with some new game modes and features. The October release will add the first six cars and the new Sportsland SUGO track from Japan, known for being technically challenging because of its elevation changes. In December, another six new cars will be added alongside the Autumn Ring circuit. Long-time gamers may remember the Autumn Ring track from early Gran Turismo games. This new version recreates and expands the iconic track after being absent from the series for over a decade. Though it's unclear which cars will launch first, the Spec IV trailer teased the classic Citroën 2CV Charleston, the Honda StepWGN, the BMW M5 E60, and the crossover EV hypercar Xiaomi Vision Gran Turismo.
The October update will bring the game mode Experience, which dares players to complete brand-specific driving challenges. Additionally, the Collector Level cap will be increased. Another new game mode called Family Mode is also coming in December, designed to appeal to young children and Gran Turismo beginners, though it also has features for veteran players. The same update will launch Online Drift Trial, where fans compete in drifting contests with other players globally. Finally, Shuffle Race is a new luck-based type of race featuring random cars. The Spec IV update will also enhance Gran Turismo 7's Sophy, its potent racing AI agent.

More details on the Spec IV update will be shared at the Gran Turismo World Series Round 3 event on October 3, so players will have to wait a few more weeks for the patch's exact release date. The developers have also confirmed that Spec IV will kick off the celebrations for Gran Turismo's 30th anniversary in 2027. It is worth noting that Gran Turismo 7 released a big update in August featuring four new cars and various upgrades, but now the Spec IV update is stepping it up with a lot more content.
