Three brothers have entered a cave, yet only two made it out. It's up to Geralt to investigate what's going on, save the third brother, and perhaps allow the three to bury the hatchet and to go into business together like their father always wanted. Head to The Gran'place's noticeboard in Beauclair and pick up the contract: Armed Escort Wanted! This will begin the Father Knows Worst side quest, which will take you south of Fort Astre Ruins to find a cave entrance, where you will find two brothers, Lucien and Auguste Monnart, screaming for help just inside.
Agree to help the brothers and head into the cave, where you will have to fight Kikimores. Once they're dead, use your Witcher Senses to find a blood trail in the southern part of the cave. You can follow this trail around to the right to find Hugo, their missing brother.
Agree to help Hugo find the missing part, and you will find yourself at a water pit that's too hot to handle. You must use the Quen sign to shield yourself from the heat; then you can dive directly down to find the Still Filter, which is glowing red if you use your Witcher Senses.
There are some chests in here too, but you only have limited protection with Quen, so it might be wise to resurface and reapply Quen before you try looting them.
Once you return the Still Filter to Hugo, he will exit the cave with you. However, it seems that his brothers are waiting outside with armed bandits. Hugo will then ask Geralt to help kill the bandits and wound his brothers, but all is not what it seems:
You should definitely say, "No one dies. Not today." This will resolve the conflict between the three brothers peacefully, and Geralt doesn't murder any innocent men. This outcome will allow the three brothers to reunite and work together at the Clever Clogs Inn, and Geralt will also be paid 300 Crowns.
Choosing the peaceful ending is also how you can get "Proof of Wisdom" as part of the There Can Be Only One side quest.
