Long-time readers will know I’ve mentioned light novel series The Apothecary Diaries a few times recently, so can probably predict my joy at Koei Tecmo’s latest announcement.
Atelier dev Gust is working on a debut console game in the popular historical detective series, with the story scenario written by original author Hyuganatsu.
The Apothecary Diaries: The False Imperial Brother will put you in control of fake-freckled heroine Maomao, and will see you investigating rumours of five unexplained mysteries within the Imperial Palace, where the protagonist serves.
Familiar faces like eunuch Jinshi will return, while the gameplay will revolve around brewing medicines and investigating clues. It does feel like a great fit for Gust’s particular type of expertise, as it’s been making potion-crafting titles for decades now.
While there’s no specific release date for the game, Koei Tecmo says it’ll launch in early 2027, and you can find out more information – including plot details – on its official website.
As a massive fan of The Apothecary Diaries, I’m really looking forward to inhabiting this world on the PS5, even though I’m not expecting the highest budget experience overall.
Have you read any of the books or watched the anime? Let me know if you’re looking forward to this as much as me in the comments section below.
