Developer CD Projekt Red revealed that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered will require players to set aside a moderate amount of storage space once it arrives on all current-gen platforms. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered will give new and returning players a fresh look at one of the best open-world RPGs of all time.
During Gamescom Opening Night Live 2026, CD Projekt Red closed the show by revealing that the adventures of Geralt of Rivia are not over yet. The dev confirmed that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered will make some noticeable changes, including improved movement, a reworked skill tree, and new visual upgrades for players to peruse. The Polish studio also gave players the first glimpses of The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past, a new expansion that will take Geralt to the mysterious land of Letten. Songs of the Past will arrive sometime in 2027 on all platforms.
Days before The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered releases on September 29, CD Projekt Red shared one additional detail for players to note down. According to a Twitter post from Marcin Momot, the studio's Global Community and Social Media Director, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered will require an additional 45 to 50 GB of storage space. Momot clarified that PC, PS5, and Xbox users will need to download and install a 45 GB update file to enjoy the remaster. However, since the Switch 2 version is an entirely new port with its own listing on the Nintendo eShop, Momot said 50 GB of storage space will be necessary instead. CD Projekt Red previously revealed that Nintendo Switch players who already have a digital or physical copy of the game can upgrade to the Switch 2 version at no extra cost.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered will include access to the base game alongside the Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine expansions. As of this writing, the PC version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Complete Edition requires approximately 51 GB of storage space. After adding in the aforementioned 45 GB from the update patch, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered will require players to set aside a combined 96 GB at most. Despite the increased file size, it will still be smaller than upcoming titles like Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, which will require approximately 200 GB of storage space.

Momot added that the PC storage requirement for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered may vary depending on any language packs that are installed. CD Projekt Red previously stated that all save data and achievements earned from previous versions of The Witcher 3 will be carried over to the remaster. This includes cross-progression save data that players can utilize on multiple platforms via GOG's cloud-based technology. Cross-progression requires users to create or log into a free CD Projekt Red account.
Given the vast amount of changes in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered, the free update will provide players with new ways to embark on the path of a monster slayer. It remains to be seen how many players return to the game come September 29.
