Star Wars Zero Company Fans Already Asking For Post-Launch Updates

Star Wars Zero Company is a major hit, launching with the second-highest concurrent peak player count in the franchise's history, topping even Jedi: Survivor and Fallen Order. But EA has left fans with an overwhelming sense of anxiety after nixing Battlefront 2 just as it finally hit its stride. So, days after launch, the community is already calling for post-launch support and rallying to show their enthusiasm.

"WE NEED POST LAUNCH CONTENT SPREAD THE WORD," posted Reddit user TheChimpisHigh. "Imagine how [much] cooler the game would be more than it already is if Bit Reactor decided to keep updating the game after launch. Like new weapons, classes, characters, post game missions, maybe even story DLCs. We cannot let a game with such a high post launch potential go to waste, not saying that the game is bad right now, but that would be amazing. Spread the word. We cannot let EA kill this game like they did to Battlefront. Obviously don't spread the word obnoxiously, but can we please as a community let EA know we want more?"

Battlefront 2 dropped DICE and EA into a Rancor pit of controversy when it launched, stuffed with loot boxes and expensive hero unlocks that were capped off by Reddit's most down-voted comment in history: "The intent is to provide players with a sense of pride and accomplishment." But, miraculously, the game pulled back. Microtransactions were disabled, progression was overhauled, and then came the jaw-dropping Geonosis reveal in 2018, with Clone Wars content, Obi-Wan, and the AT-TE setting the tone for what the game could be, and would eventually become. Then, in 2020, DICE and EA brought regular content support to an end.

The community has kept the lights on with mods, and Battlefront 2 regularly enjoys huge resurgences of players, but officially? It's dead. The servers are still chugging away, but the senate has well and truly disbanded. Given that history, it's no surprise that Zero Company players are already dreading the same outcome.

"There's always infinite new things you can bring to a game set in as rich a universe as Star Wars," replied shinobigarth. "But it's all up to what EA lets them do."

It's unclear right now whether Bit Reactor has plans for DLC or further post-launch content. When asked directly about that point in the official FAQ, the team responded, "We [are] focused on making the best game we can at launch and don't have anything to announce right now." And that's exactly why fans like TheChimpisHigh are trying to rally the community. They see potential in Zero Company and want even more. There's just a slight, glaring difference here. Zero Company isn't an online multiplayer game like Battlefront 2, so the comparison might be a little farfetched.

I really just want a roguelike or endless mode of some sort that I can just play endlessly basically - Showyoucan.

Not to mention that, in an interview with VGC, studio founder and game director Greg Foertsch was more focused on what comes next, saying the studio is "looking to do existing IP" and would "love to keep making Star Wars, potentially." So while Zero Company's future remains unclear, it might be less about turning it into a live service behemoth and more about convincing Bit Reactor to keep making Star Wars games.
