Blizzard has officially revealed the reworked gameplay kits for Overwatch's Sombra and Roadhog, making several notable changes to the pair of heroes. The reworks were among the biggest announcements for Overwatch during BlizzCon 2026.
The beloved hero shooter from Blizzard received some big news during the company's annual festivities. Overwatch officially confirmed the newest hero coming to the game during its opening ceremony presentation, revealing Doctrine as a vampire support who will launch in Season 5. The shooter is also giving away some major gifts to players to celebrate the convention, offering a free Mythic skin to all players just for completing a match during the month following BlizzCon. Now, Blizzard is giving players an in-depth look at two major reworks coming soon, redesigning the kits for Sombra and Roadhog.
During BlizzCon 2026, Blizzard revealed the newly overhauled kits for both Sombra and Roadhog. Sombra saw the biggest changes as a result of the rework, repositioning her from a Recon Damage role to a Tactician Support. Her normal abilities have largely been replaced, with "Hack" being swapped out for the new Hotfix ability, which heals allies and hacks health packs and enemy deployables. Sombra's "Virus" ability has been reworked into "Cyberspace," which now creates an area-of-effect zone that weakens enemies and heals her allies. Sombra's Perks have also been reworked to go with her new abilities, including one applying Hotfix after using her Ultimate and another which doubles her healing on weakened allies.

Roadhog saw fewer major changes, though the adjustments will force players to strategize differently when playing Roadhog. The rework added "Trash Compactor" as a third ability for the Bruiser Tank, which absorbs enemy projectiles before returning them in an explosive blast. The "Scrap Hook" Perk saw a major boost with Roadhog's rework, now reloading four ammo on landing a hook, instead of the previous two. Roadhog's "Shrapnel Launcher" Perk was replaced with "Here, Piggy, Piggy," which drastically reduces his Scrap Hook cooldown while his Ultimate, Whole Hog, is active. Trash Compactor also gains its own Major Perk, Toxic Exhaust, which slows and damages enemies while the ability is active.

While Sombra is easily the biggest of the two reworks, it is not the first time a rework has completely changed a hero's role. Doomfist saw major changes following the game's relaunch as Overwatch 2, with the character being repositioned as a Tank, rather than a Damage hero. Symmetra has also received multiple sweeping reworks throughout the history of the game, with Blizzard moving her back and forth between damage and defensive roles in the hero shooter.
