A woman from California has revealed that she was paid $120,000 to carry a baby that ended up being for Chinese video game billionaire Xu Bo.
There are plenty of reasons why people choose to go down the surrogacy route when it comes to having a child. On the flip side, surrogates can often make some money from deciding to carry a child for nine months, provided they’re not just helping a friend out. However, you might not find out who the baby is intended for.
In the case of one woman from California, she revealed that she decided to take on the role of a surrogate when she saw an advert on Instagram.
Speaking to CBS News, the woman – who has been named only as Judy to protect her identity – has her own seven-year-old, and after spotting the ad for $120,000, she decided that it could help her find a home for her own family.
Judy was wary by the fact that the surrogacy agency, Patriot Conceptions, told her that the father was a single dad who was looking to expand his family and that he had hired more than two dozen surrogates.
CBS News also presented Judy with documents, stating that the intended father was Xu Bo, the Chinese billionaire behind the Guangzhou Duoyi Network, which has created a whole host of mobile games.
Bo has previously downplayed claims that he has fathered over 300 children from surrogacy, but revealed he has more than 100 anyway.
Judy said she’d asked on multiple occasions for the father to be identified, but wasn’t told who he was – until she spoke to CBS.
