Marvel's Wolverine releases Update 1.001.006 and for many players, the patch finally adds customizable toggles for many of the heavily criticized features in the game. While the launch of Marvel's Wolverine may not have been as smooth as many anticipated, Insomniac continues to refine the experience for players with the latest update making a highly requested change.
It's been a rougher than expected road for Marvel's Wolverine, which became embroiled in negative press following a preview event. Fans criticized a number of elements, from what appeared to be a simplistic gameplay boss battle against a Sentinel, to other community concerns like how much Marvel's Wolverine holds the players hand. Logan's tracking ability became one of the biggest talking points with reviewers and ultimately players, though Insomniac has continued to work on adjusting the game based on player feedback.
A new patch has arrived for Marvel's Wolverine and with it comes the long-awaited settings toggle for some of the more criticized features. There has been no shortage of debate regarding the game's use of Logan's tracking ability, represented by a scent trail in the game that can be followed to hidden locations and collectibles. Ahead of launch, many fans felt Marvel's Wolverine was too hand-holdy, leading fans to specific spots on the map instead of letting them explore, an issue made worse inside a more linear-style game. Insomniac responded to these mixed Marvel's Wolverine reviews, promising to "further refine" the game based on feedback.
In a previous update, Insomniac toned down Wolverine's scent trail, though the studio has gone one step further with this latest patch. Under gameplay settings, players can now specifically toggle Logan's senses on or off completely for Whiskey Bottles, Material Crate audio clues, and Nightmare Door roots. However, Insomniac clarifies that story-critical senses can't be toggled off and will still appear in the world.
The update also makes several important fixes to crashes and other bugs. This includes the recent controversy that resulted from a strange looking bathroom icon, which many quickly accused Insomniac of using AI for Marvel's Wolverine. The studio responded by saying it wasn't AI and that no AI-generated assets were used in the game as the issue was simply a UV mapping bug. Whatever the case may be, the issue is now resolved and the overlapping bathroom sign is no longer an issue.
It's worth noting that despite the criticisms levied at the game, it appears that Marvel's Wolverine has still become a hit. While official numbers have not been shared by Sony or Insomniac directly, Rhys Elliot of Alinea Analytics provided some estimates and noted that gross revenue is said to be around $130 million. As the sixth highest-grossing new game released on PS5 in 2026, Elliot is assuming the game could also find more success thanks to the X-Men appearing in the upcoming Avangers: Doomsday film as well as Grand Theft Auto 6 pushing additional PS5 sales. It still has a ways to go to become profitable, but the start is likely better than most people assumed amid all the negativity surrounding the game's launch.
This update includes Senses toggles for Whisky Bottle Scent Trails, Material Crate Audio Clues, and Nightmare Door Roots. It also addresses several community-reported crashes and bugs.
