Weapons can be upgraded in Runescape: Dragonwilds by using Ascension Cores, which will increase an item's Power Level by 1 when used. However, this only applies to Masterwork gear, and to make Ascension Cores, you'll need to farm a good amount of Ascension Shards as well. The latter is mainly dropped by dragons and other strong enemies, while the former can be crafted after getting the necessary recipes from quest rewards or certain powerful enemies. In this Runescape: Dragonwilds guide, we'll be showing you how you can upgrade your Masterwork weapons as well as the best ways to farm Ascension Shards.
Ascension Shards are mainly obtained by beating bosses and tough enemies like lesser dragons and Zogres. You'll need higher-tier Ascension Shards to upgrade higher-tier weapons, and you can get those by slaying these same enemy types in higher-level zones.
The most reliable way to get Ascension Shard drops is to farm the main dragon boss of a zone:
Main bosses drop 30–40 Ascension Shards when defeated, and they are guaranteed to drop shards when beaten. If doing this is too difficult for your current strength level, then consider fighting weaker bosses like Green Dragons and Zogres in Fellhollow, and Blue Dragons in Dowdun Reach.

To craft an Ascension Core, you'll need a Mystic Forge and the following items:
The types of materials you need depends on the level of the Ascension Core you want to make — cores require materials that can be obtained from regions of a similar Power Level (i.e. Ascension Core 4 & 5 require Iron/Steel, Draconic Leather, and Fine Thread, all of which drop from Fellhollow, a Power Level 4–5 region)
Once you have the right Ascension Core with you, interact with your Mystic Forge, then select the Upgrade tab. Put the item you want to upgrade into the slot, then press the Ascend button. This will increase your item's Power Level by 1, improving its base stats.
