Grand Theft Auto 6’s total map size is approximately twice as big as GTA 5.
That’s according to YouTube personality TGG, who visited Rockstar North ahead of the Netflix premiere of Grand Theft Auto 6: An Extended Look.
TGG saw three hours of the game and spoke with head of development Rob Nelson.
“The message that the entire Rockstar team wanted to get across to me is, ‘this game is so big, the world has never seen a game like GTA 6 before’.”
Nelson played two and a half hours of the game in front of TGG after also watching the Extended Look well in advance. There, he was able to see more of the game and ask detailed questions about the game’s scope.
One of the things he was able to ask about was the size of the game’s world map. Nelson shared several size comparisons with TGG, saying that the world is twice the size of GTA 5, and three times the size of Red Dead Redemption 2.
GTA 6’s Vice City is twice the size of Los Santos, and when including the surrounding suburbs, it is eleven times larger than Los Santos and its surrounding areas.
Netflix’s An Extended Look preview showcases some aerial and skyline shots of GTA 6’s city, and it does appear to be very large in comparison with the open worlds we’ve previously seen from Rockstar Games.
