Square Enix revealed a new batch of information for the upcoming Final Fantasy Resonance, shining a light on Visions, both unique to the title and returning characters from other Final Fantasy entries, more details about the world, as well as segments regarding optional content for completionists, including the reveal of two famous optional bosses across the franchise: Gilgamesh and Ultima Weapon.
Final Fantasy Resonance answers the question "what if Final Fantasy never distanced itself from pixel art?" by bringing the franchise's very first full single-player HD-2D game to the table. It's not an entirely new title, though, because Final Fantasy Resonance was built from the now-offline mobile game Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, bringing along the game's protagonists, setting, and plotlines, but tailored for an offline experience.
The latest media kit for Final Fantasy Resonance revealed more details about the world, nations, characters, and Visions that will encompass the game. However, completionists (and masochists like me) might have their attention drawn to another aspect. Square Enix promises that Final Fantasy Resonance will feature plenty of side objectives, such as hunting for collectibles, optional Visions, minigames, and now, secret dungeons and bosses.
To acquire magicites and awaken the Visions, thus allowing them to learn more skills, we must defeat what are called Mighty Foes, which pretty much boils down to enemies that hit a lot harder than the average Joe. The developers also mentioned that Final Fantasy Resonance will feature Secret Dungeons, which are completely unrelated to the main story while offering a much stiffer challenge than the campaign.
Considering the timeline of information, I imagine it's in these optional dungeons that we will cross paths with our favorite dimension-hopping swordsman, Gilgamesh, whose final battle will take place in a stage set to a track of the same name. Meanwhile, the game's biggest hurdle will lie with the old reliable Ultima Weapon, as has become standard practice for the franchise. So completionists beware, because if there is one thing I have learned over all these years of playing JRPGs, it is that turn-based superbosses are far more daunting than their action-genre counterparts.
The new batch of information highlighted more details about the world of Final Fantasy Resonance. Details include the Zoldaad Empire, a military nation that houses the Fire Crystal, and Mysidia, a magical civilization famous in the franchise that holds the Water Crystal in Final Fantasy Resonance. Alongside these locations, new main characters also received information, such as Jake, leader of a rebel army opposing the Zoldaad Empire, and Sakura, the sage of Mysidia.
