10 Free-To-Play Games To Try In September 2026

It's fun to have a bunch of games to choose from, and this lineup has plenty of variety. Some are from well-known franchises with names you’ll probably recognize immediately, while others are smaller indie releases that might have flown under your radar. From big adventures and creepy horror games to charming little puzzle experiences, there’s a nice mix here, and they’re all worth checking out.

I’ve rounded up some of the free games I love most, and give you a closer look at what makes each one worth your time. So, if you’re looking for something new to play or just want to see what’s out there, these are some of the free games currently catching my attention in September.

I have learned that giving a group of people cute goose avatars and asking them to work together is an excellent way to discover exactly how little trust exists between friends. Goose Goose Duck is a social deduction game for up to sixteen players, with players divided into different groups and given competing objectives. Some players are trying to complete tasks and achieve their goals, while others have rather less wholesome plans.

The basic formula will be familiar if you have played other social deduction games, but the goose theme gives everything an appropriately silliness. The real fun comes from the conversations, accusations, alliances, and spectacularly bad lies. It is particularly good with friends because everyone eventually becomes convinced everyone else is suspicious.

If you have ever played Where's Waldo and thought: 'this would be much better if I were looking for frogs': 100 Hidden Frogs understands you. The premise is wonderfully simple. You are dropped into an image packed with tiny details and need to find the hidden frogs scattered throughout it. That is basically the entire pitch, and I do not think it needs anything more complicated.

100 Hidden Frogs is also a nice change of pace from the usual free-to-play games. It is just me, a picture, and the increasingly personal vendetta I develop against one extremely well-hidden frog.

I have spent enough time in Overwatch to know that calling it a 'quick game' is one of the great lies we tell ourselves. You queue up thinking you will play one match and then it is two hours later and you have developed extremely strong opinions about your team composition.

Overwatch remains one of the easiest free games to recommend if you want something with a huge variety of characters and playstyles. Its hero-based combat means there is usually something to suit whatever mood I am in, from charging into battle as a tank to hanging back and pretending I have excellent aim.
