There are a lot of exceptional FPS franchises out there, with some having an incredible streak of games that many have struggled to match. However, having a perfect FPS trilogy is far from easy. Some series may have an iconic beginning, but struggle to carry that perfection through the final chapter.
Yet when it happens, we are treated to not just one but three amazing games, all with their own strengths that ultimately tie into one another and make the whole experience so much better. From all sides of the genre, these trilogies show that it is possible to tell cohesive stories, keep the player engaged, and maintain a high level of quality over the course of several distinct games.

Few FPS trilogies have had the cultural and mechanical impact of the original Halo trilogy. Combat Evolved demonstrated that a console FPS game could offer the complete package of precise controls, intelligent enemies, expansive levels, and a genuinely well-written story tying it all together, and that's without even mentioning the PvP.
Halo 2 expanded virtually everything, introducing vehicle improvements, and the third installment, Halo 3, did not just repeat what came before; it refined the formula to a fine science that defined much of FPS gaming in the early 2000s. More than two decades later, the original Halo trilogy remains one of the clearest examples of how to build an FPS in which the individual games are excellent on their own and even more effective as a complete trilogy.
The original Modern Warfare trilogy transformed Call of Duty from a successful World War 2 shooter into one of the biggest entertainment franchises in the world. In the first game, we were introduced to a contemporary setting with so much cinematic action that it often felt like playing a movie, and that same concept remained true throughout the next two games as well.
What makes the trilogy work is its sense of continuity. Characters, conflicts, and consequences carry over directly between games, giving the three campaigns the feeling of one enormous story rather than a series of disconnected military shooters. If you ever get bored of effectively saving the world over and over, then you have access to some of the crispest and most satisfying multiplayer modes in the franchise that still land atop many players' lists today.
