That makes even unfinished environment work particularly interesting, especially after years of updates on the Splinter Cell remake that have consisted mostly of concept art and developer comments confirming it is still in development.
In a recently published report by MP1st, newly uncovered screenshots reportedly taken from an early build of Ubisoft's Splinter Cell remake have surfaced through the portfolio of a developer who worked on the project. The images appear to date back to at least 2024 and show a recreation of Tbilisi, Georgia, one of the key locations from the original game, where Sam is sent to investigate the disappearance of two CIA operatives. Leaked materials show an urban courtyard, storefronts, graffiti, political posters, and other environmental details that closely resemble the setting and story context of the 2002 release. Some screenshots appear in uncharacteristically bright lighting despite the original mission being associated with nighttime stealth, though that may simply reflect that these are environment showcase images rather than representative gameplay. However, due to the age of the leaked images from the Splinter Cell remake, fans should note that they may not accurately reflect what the finished remake will ultimately look like.

Nothing shown so far suggests Ubisoft is radically reinventing Tbilisi or replacing the elements that made the original mission recognizable. Instead, the early environments appear to take familiar locations, characters, and political context and rebuild them in much greater detail. Ubisoft has repeatedly said it wants the Splinter Cell remake to preserve the importance of stealth, darkness, gadgets, and careful planning, so maintaining the original setting while enriching its environments would fit that philosophy well. For longtime Splinter Cell fans, that may be preferable to a remake that changes the series simply for modernization's sake.
