When you start a new MyGM career in NBA 2K27, the first thing you'll do is set a backstory for your custom manager and pick a starting perk. Of course, you will get more attribute points down the line to add to the key stats of your manager, but your starting ratings do matter for the initial games of the season. The game offers multiple backstory options. From an ex-player with extensive knowledge of offensive plays to a businessman who excels at closing deals and convincing other general managers to agree to the offered trades.
The best starting backstory is Custom. It gives you one star for every stat, and then grants 6 attribute points so that you can spend them the way you want. This brings massive flexibility to help your team the way you want.
A team like the Philadelphia 76ers surely won't need another trade to strengthen their lineup. So, there is no need to spend any attribute points on Charisma when you won't be involved in trades or signings anymore.
On the other hand, when you play for a team like the Portland Trail Blazers, you might want to help the team more with its defensive structure, as it has some amazing players on offense, such as Damian Lillard and Ja Morant.

This allocation will help significantly with your team's ability to score their shots, as Offensive Coaching directly improves the team's offensive attributes. Now, keep in mind that this is not just shooting, as there are many different attributes that relate to the offense.
If you are concerned about shooting, though, that's what we will work toward when assigning the perks. In the Custom backstory, you get to unlock two perks of your choice instead of one. I strongly recommend Shot Doctor and Extra Shot Doctor perks from the Coaching category. These two perks will improve all shooting-related attributes by 6 points, which is a significant help for your players to have successful throws on the court.
The Shot Doctor perks will improve the green throw on your shot meter in a way that you can feel the difference with and without these perks. In 3-pointers, mid-range shots, and close-range shots, it will be easier to green the throw with 6 added attributes. And honestly, a good offense can make up for a weaker defense.
