If you've unintentionally buried a bad body in Graveyard Keeper 2, you can still undo your mistake by exhuming the recently-laid dead. To do this, you first need to get an Exhumation Certificate from Januarius, the village chief and tavern keeper, for 5 Silver and 50 Copper. Once that's done, go back to graveyard, dismantle any decorations built over the grave you've dug, then exhume the body from the menu that appears.
Exhuming corpses in Graveyard Keeper 2 lets you maintain your graveyard's quality. Doing this also lets you gather up any useful materials from bodies you buried earlier in the game.
Exhumation Certificates are all you really need before you can dig up bodies in your graveyard. To get one, go to the tavern in the middle of town, then trade with Januarius. In my experience, he sells only 1 Exhumation Certificate per day, and his stock refreshes every day, so think carefully before you use one.
After you get a certificate, all that's left to do is go to the grave of the body you want to remove, get rid of any decorations (crosses and fences) on it, then exhume the corpse. You need 1 Exhumation Certificate for every corpse you dig up — if you want to remove more, you'll need to buy another one.
Apart from redoing your graveyard's layout, exhuming corpses has the following benefits:
Conducting Autopsies in Graveyard Keeper 2 lets you gather materials that are useful for crafting, such as Blood, Fat, and Bones. Later, you'll be able to extract more complex organs like hearts and brains for totally ethical necromancy.
Your graveyard's quality dictates how much money you get for every sermon you perform every week on Wrath day. This is also affected by the number of sermon attendees and the total Town Gratitude you have upon starting your sermon. As you progress through the tech tree, you'll be able to unlock better headstones, fences, and other cemetery decorations, all of which will further improve your graveyard's quality.
You can remove headstones and fences at any time without needing an Exhumation Certificate.
